I do have a couple of experiences with wild animals I would like to share.. they might not be too different then what alot of other folks have experienced.. but for me they are pretty uplifting.
One time, many years ago.. My cousins and I trapped a live Badger. I was three years old at the time, and I will never forget my dads face when we brought the Badger into the house.. My dad turned White! We trapped him in a live box trap.. the kind you hold up with a stick with a line tied to it, and bait on the ground. When the critter goes in the box, you pull the string and the box falls on the critter, trapping it. We then slid the "cover" under the box and fitted it so it stayed closed. Then took it back to the house and INTO the house.. the Badger was full grown. No one got hurt.. and the Badger was released unharmed, by the PARENTS.. LOL.
Now as an adult, we were driving in the mountains of California.. near Mt. Shasta.. and a doe deer was just off the road, grazing on some grass. My husband stopped the car.. I walked out, ever so slowly and the deer came up and touched me on the hand with her nose.. This lasted long enough for my husband to get out of the car and take a picture.
About 15 years ago, my husband and I were way up in the Rockies.. we came upon a herd of mountain goats.. I asked him to stop. There were 3 kids in the herd, (kids are baby goats).. and I just scrambled over the grass and rocks to get really close.. suddenly about 5 feet from the goats, I realized they were wild and I was advancing too fast.. I stopped and sat on a rock.. the Buck of the group.. stopped and watched me.. then returned to grazing, and I was able to watch them from a really close vantage point for about 15 minutes.. at some point a few of them and one kid were less then 3 feet from me, then in the natural pattern of grazing they started to get further away. There were close to 10 or 12 in the herd. I was breathless with excitement for being allowed this privilege and have always been grateful for it.
